Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the Mercy Health – Anderson Hospital Emergency Medicine Residency Program located?

We are located at 7500 State Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45255.

How are resident supervised in the Emergency Medicine Department?

PGY-1 residents require direct supervision from an attending physician for patient encounters. As residents transition into their PGY-2 and PGY-3 years, gradual autonomy and responsibility in decision-making is given to residents depending on the visit type.

How many patients do residents see in the ED?

PGY-1 residents, during their first year of residency, typically see about one patient per hour during shift.  In the second year, (PGY-2), residents will see approximately 1.5 to 2 patients per hour.  By the third year (PGY-3), residents are able to manage 2 to 2.5 patients per hour per shift.

Do residents help with teaching of medical students?

Medical education is an integral part of our residency program. PGY-1 residents in the second half of their first year can begin to help with teaching medical students; however, aside from working with attendings, medical students will usually work with PGY-2 and PGY-3 residents.
