Paid Time Off

What to Expect

You will find the internal medicine program director and faculty welcoming, supportive and committed to your success. We have built our program to foster a culture of kindness and compassion. The program provides a comprehensive orientation to ensure you are ready to provide care in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. As a resident you will care for a diverse patient population including those who are socioeconomically vulnerable and underserved. The program brings a balance of clinical experiences and provides elective rotations to tailor your education. Our program focuses on both teamwork and honing individual strengths, encouraging collaboration, not competition. Our residents are respected, valued members of our team, as are our ancillary staff. You will graduate competent and prepared to care for the community you choose to serve. 

Call Schedule

Residents are not scheduled for overnight inpatient call (in-house call) within our current block schedule. We believe that taking in-house call can put an extra burden on residents, which ultimately may lead to burnout or medical errors. We will strive to keep in-house call at a minimum. For appropriate coverage, we utilize day and night float systems. The hospital offers call rooms for our residents that allow for easy access to patients, resting, reading, snacking and completion of notes. 

Average Hours a Week

We are committed to compliance with ACGME’s Clinical Experience and Education (formerly known as Duty Hours). We strive to offer an effective program structure that provides a positive work-life balance while enabling residents to gain requisite education and clinical experiences, as well as reasonable opportunities for rest and personal activities. Clinical and educational work averages from approximately 50 to 70 hours per week depending on rotation schedule.
